26 MAY 2022 10:30 – 11:30
The power of spontaneous, imaginative, purposeful theatre-based speaking activities in language education.

This seminar includes a diverse range of speaking activities, ranging from more gentle, humorous activities, to unpredictable situations requiring spontaneous, spoken communication, to challenging group-based role-plays where the stakes may become higher. Creativity, confidence, clarity of personal expression and linguistic agency are the underlying principles of all tasks.
Awareness of the physical space and ‘desks that don’t move’ will be addressed, as will the role of the teacher-as-facilitator, and also the potential reluctance or shyness of students to participate. The need to create a learning environment of kindness and trust, while maintaining a focus on personal expression will be a key point of discussion.
